BBB Email Scam
If you received an email from someone claiming to be from the BBB (Better Business Bureau) claiming that a complaint has been filed against you DELETE THE EMAIL! This latest scam is traveling around seeking out anyone who would open the email and in a panic download the supposed claim attachment. All of this is fictitious and here is a message from the New York BBB website. The reason we are posting information from the New York BBB is because the email we received gave the appearance that it came from there.
“BBB of Metro New York is warning businesses and consumers regarding an email which is made to appear as if it was sent by BBB. This email contains an attachment regarding a complaint. The email is a fake. Please do not open any attachments and disregard this email. The email is fraudulent and does not originate from BBB. The email attachment may contain malicious content and should be deleted from your computer immediately. Please note that BBB does not send complaints as attachments via email and strongly advises you to be careful when opening attachments even if you know the sender. The BBB is working diligently to assist the authorities in shutting down the malicious activity and will continue to do so until the threat is contained.
